Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone that binds the shared luteinizing-hormone / chorionic-gonadotropin receptor (LH/CGR), so it mimics the actions of luteinizing hormone (LH) and stimulates gonadal steroid production.

Approved as a fertility and hypogonadism medicine: chorionic gonadotropin for injection is FDA-licensed (BLA 017067) for prepubertal cryptorchidism, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males and induction of ovulation, and hCG products are authorised in the EU and UK (Ovitrelle, centrally authorised; Gonasi in Spain).
